Commercial Air Conditioning Systems

COVID-19 – Disinfection of air conditioning systems:

Disinfection of air conditioning systems by chemical cleaning is not currently a recommendation for dealing with the virus. However, it is good practice to keep your coils clear and clean for general hygiene and system efficiency, so it should be completed when required. This task is unlikely to form part of your usual planned maintenance regime. If you have concerns or have been told it needs to be done, please get in touch and we will happily discuss the current industry guidelines and whether your systems will benefit from a chemical disinfection.

As well as compliance the regular servicing of your systems will help to ensure that the heat exchange works as efficiently as possible when you need it to, and your staff & visitors will enjoy a comfortable environment at all times of the year, and for many more years to come.

Leak Testing of Air Conditioning Systems

EU Regulation 517/2014 (also known as the F-Gas regulations) specifies the requirement for statutory leak testing of air conditioning and heat-pump systems that contain fluorinated refrigerant. The frequency of statutory testing depends on the quantity and type of refrigerant, of which there are many. Smaller air conditioning systems will require testing annually, some will be 6-monthly and others 3-monthly. Some systems require fixed leak detection equipment to be in place.

Leak checking is a specialist task and can only be carried out by trained engineers who work for accredited firms.

Supply, Installation & Commission

We will design, supply, install and commission air conditioning and heat-pump systems specifically for your environment. We offer the full range of systems and we are not aligned with any manufacturer, some more commonly installed type of system are:

  • Split System – An indoor unit (mounted on a wall, ceiling, above ceiling or floor) linked to an outdoor unit by a pair of small diameter copper pipes contained in an insulating jacket. These systems re-circulate the air in the room, whilst cooling or heating it to the required temperature.
  • Multi-Split System – A number of indoor units individually controlled by a single outdoor unit. An ideal way to serve a number of areas whilst minimising the space required for outdoor units.
  • VRF System (Variable Refrigerant Flow) – The ultimate in flexibility. The most recent and refined development of the split systems, multiple indoor units can be connected to a single large outdoor unit, which responds proportionately to the number of indoor units operating, in either heating or cooling with heat recovery. The VRF system offers a year-round solution to indoor climate control with unrivalled flexibility and energy efficiency.

Planned & Preventative Maintenance

Air conditioning systems require statutory and preventative maintenance. We have many years of experience in planning our customer’s maintenance visits to ensure equipment is in good working order and any remaining manufacturers warranty is not compromised. We maintain all records and will remind you in advance when your service is due.

When Should Air Conditioning be Serviced?

Service routines will depend on the type of equipment installed and the environment it is serving. Comfort cooling and heating systems are generally serviced at least twice a year. We recommend that commercial air conditioning systems are fully serviced at least twice a year to maintain optimum performance and reduce the likelihood of breakdowns and poor performance.

Air Conditioning Inspections (TM44)

Regulations require that Air Conditioning systems over 12kW capacity, or combination of air conditioning systems of 12kW or more are professionally inspected at least once every 5 years*. There are many benefits aside from legal compliance, including improving the efficiency of Air Conditioning units and reducing running costs.

Our Low Carbon Energy Assessors are accredited by the Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineers and fully qualified to carry out the requirements of the highest level Air Conditioning inspections in the UK.

An air conditioning energy efficiency inspection will be carried out by a fully qualified and accredited Air Conditioning Inspector and Low Carbon Energy Assessor who will discuss the results and implications with you after the inspection is complete. They may recommend some adjustments which would result in improved energy efficiency, which in many cases do not cost anything to implement.
