Graduate Building Services Design Engineer (Mechanical)

Place of Work: Hartley Wintney, Hampshire
Hours of Work: 42.5 hours a week (0830 to 1700)
Holidays: 20 days + bank holidays
Contract: Permanent

The ideal candidate will be a recent graduate with a degree in Building Services engineering, with a Mechanical bias. We are looking for someone eager to start their career and grow within our company. You should be enthusiastic, proactive, and ready to develop your career with us.

The business specialises in:

  • Domestic hot and cold water including boosted and tank supplies
  • Low temperature heating
  • Air source and Ground source heat pumps and solar hot water collectors
  • General supply and extract mechanical ventilation
  • Natural and mixed mode ventilation
  • Air conditioning
  • Gas and oil fired boiler plant
  • Natural gas distribution
  • Variable refrigerant flow direct expansion cooling and heat pump systems
  • Automatic control and building management systems

Knowledge and awareness:

  • Basic understanding of domestic hot and cold water systems, including boosted and tank supplies.
  • Familiarity with low temperature heating systems.
  • Knowledge of air source and ground source heat pumps, and solar hot water collectors.
  • General understanding of supply and extract mechanical ventilation.
  • Awareness of natural and mixed mode ventilation.
  • Air conditioning
  • Familiarity with gas and oil fired boiler plants.
  • Understanding of natural gas distribution.
  • Awareness of variable refrigerant flow direct expansion cooling and heat pump systems.
  • Understanding of automatic control and building management systems.

 Responsibilities:

  • Meeting with clients to determine scope of mechanical applications and requirements.
  • Support rest of staff with technical interpretations and quotations to ensure these meet client needs.
  • Support site surveys to determine requirements and assist with pricing for installation works with varying degrees of design requirements.
  • Conduct research to inform the design and engineering methods required for mechanical systems.
  • Document the design process.
  • Help manage project timelines, resources, and budgets.
  • Liaise with clients, designers, engineers, and manufacturers to ensure coherence.
  • Prepare technical reports, assist with design specification documents, and operational manuals.
  • Stay abreast of the latest advancements in technology, design trends, and engineering best practices.
  • Present proposals to clients and external project team members.
  • Review and follow up with sales outsourcing leads.

 Requirements:

  • Degree qualified in Building Services Engineering with a mechanical bias.
  • Strong knowledge of design and engineering principles and best practices.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Exceptional time management and organisational skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Attentive to detail and critically minded.
  • Ability to stay abreast of advancements in technology and engineering design trends.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in using common design software, such as AutoCAD.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Some knowledge and understanding of industry design principles.
